During 2022 StreetCo’ was contracted by Mamou-Mani to install a LED Mesh in Al-Rihla for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Doha, Qatar.
The design is based on the golden ratio and is to be realised with reclaimed timber from an abandoned colonial bridge and a twisting #bamboo skin inviting all to a ceremonial viewing platform. We called this tower Bhuma “Earth” in Sanskrit.
Context / environment : FIFA World Cup 2022
Our countdown is a journey, a giant sundial, a piece that evolves, as you walk around it, as you interact with its giant sails surrounding a technological sphere.
Inspired by nature, Al-Rihla is a self-powered flower with 12 petals, one for each hour of the clock and reminiscent of the Dhows in the harbour, woven in the tradition of the Al Sadu cloth, it will weave people around the globe, around football, around the world cup. Al-rihla will be a beacon of unity and joy, bringing us to an event that the whole world will be looking forward to.
Solution to install a LED Mesh Spiral

Materials & laboUr
After studying the feasibility of the custom solution at length with the engineers at Street Communication, the team settled on a solution of Linear Mesh Curtain LED.
A support structure is also studied by Mamou Mani at length until the end of the project to achieve a perfect result and integration allowing the client to see only the part desired by the architects.
Challenge to install a Linear LED Mesh
For this project, the biggest challenge was to perfectly combine the LEDs with the structure that was created for the occasion. So that the rendering is as natural as possible and that we just see the lights without seeing the source.
