Royole created world’s thinnest full-color flexible display

Royole is one of our trusty partners.

The company was founded in Fremont, California, Hong Kong and Shenzhen China by Stanford engineering graduates in 2012, with the mission to improve the way people interact with and perceive the world. Royole creates and manufactures next-generation human-machine interface technologies and products such as advanced flexible displays, flexible sensors, and smart devices. It also provides IP licenses, services, and solutions for a variety of industries associated with displays and flexible electronics applications.

One of the products by Royole that intrigues us the most are their flexible displays, the designed and developed world’s thinnest displays ever and that is A M A Z I N G!

Royale has dedicated theirselves to the development of innovative flexible display technologies and applications, covering novel materials, processes, circuits, manufacturing tools and others, which enabled them to demonstrate the world’s thinnest (0.01 mm) full-color flexible display.

Royole’s flexible displays have profound implications for next generation electronics by enabling brand new form factors and application.

In three years, they have rapidly accumulated hundreds of intellectual property rights and key technical know-hows covering all aspects of display manufacturing including materials, processing, devices, circuits, electronic systems and module development.

Based on their proprietary flexible display technology, they created the thinnest color AMOLED flexible display that was integrated with a fully-functional mobile phone platform. The overall display thickness was only about 0.01 mm (10 µm), as thin as an onion skin. Due to its ultra-thin thickness, bending radius of the flexible display can be as small as 1 mm, which is even thinner than a pen refill. The display still has the capability to display high quality videos with brilliant and vivid colors.

What are some of the advantages that flexible displays have against conventional displays?

  • ultra-thin

  • light weight

  • bendable

  • portable

  • shatter-proof

  • unbreakable

  • low energy
